PELLETS FOR GUINEA PIGS
Pellets for piggies must always be hay-based. Pellets that have coloured bits or seeds are not safe at all as coloured bits are just artificially dyed food with no nutrients, and seeds are just risky as they might cause obstructions in their throats, too rich in fat or may even get stuck in their teeth.
Safe pellets should be hay-based as it helps with their digestive tracts. They contain vitamins and minerals that can contribute to a healthy diet. Only feed 1/8 of a cup per day to prevent obesity. https://www.vmamodesto.com/blog/feeding-your-guinea-pig/
Piggies that are below 6 months old can be fed with pellets that are alfalfa-based. It is high in calcium which can cause bladder stones in adult piggies.
Some of the pellet brands recommended would be from:
- Oxbow
- Sherwood
- KMS Hayloft
