Our Oat, Wheat, Barley Hay contains mostly stems, long seed heads, and leaves. This grade of hay comes from the first harvest of Wheat Barley Oat Blend. Near the end of the growing season, the plant begins pumping sugars up into the seed heads to help them finish maturing. This causes the hay to taste great despite having more yellow than other hays.
The Oat, Wheat, Barley Hay provides a strong balance of roughage and nutrition for herbivores. It’s long seed heads, short broad leaves, and long thick stems make it coarser, providing long strands that promote natural chewing behavior.
Hay should make up 80% of a herbivore's diet as it is a staple food filled with nutrition and fibre. The constant foraging and grazing encouraged by hay helps to keep them physically active and mentally stimulated. It also helps to wear down their teeth while the long strand fiber helps to keep their digestion regular and functioning properly.
Hay Origin: Northern California
All of our hay products are sent out in black ziplock bags to ensure freshness and prevent the hay from turning yellow under light. Always keep in a cool area.
